Perception of Otherness in Europe – Analysis of the Media Discourse before The United Kingdom European Union Membership Referendum 2016

The thesis contributes to explaining the perception of otherness in Europe by conducting the analysis of the media discourse before The United Kingdom European Union membership referendum in 2016. The aim of this thesis is to identify the key concepts used in the media discourse to construct the internal and external otherness in Europe and to reflect the consequences of this practice. The thesis is based on the theory of critical geopolitics which helps us to understand how the social construction of territory and identity works. The result of this thesis is to answer the following question: how was the otherness in Europe described by the British press during the days before the referendum and how was the result affected by this description?

Development of the economic relations between Germany and the Visegrád Group before and after east enlargement of the EU

During the eastern enlargement of the EU four emerging countries of the Visegrád Group - Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary - joined the community of European states. This significant event notably affected not only the transformation process in the countries mentioned above but also their relations with the EU member states. The aim of this master thesis is to research the impact of the eastern enlargement of the EU on economic relations between C.E. countries and Germany, and to answer the question whether the EU accession was the main decisive factor for the dynamic development of economic cooperation between the above mentioned states. The analysis of economic relations focuses on two key dimensions: trade relations and direct investment. The government's policy of supporting the investment activities both in Germany and C.E. countries is also taken into account. The thesis is divided into three parts. The first chapter intends to analyze the integration process of the C.E. countries in the '90s and its influence on the dynamic development of the economic cooperation between Germany and Visegrád Group. Germany and the Eastern Enlargement of the Schengen Area

This bachelor thesis deals with the preconditions, the process and the consequences of the so-called Eastern enlargement of the Schengen Area in 2007, with special regard to the Federal Republic of Germany, its role in the process as well as the advantages and disadvantages connected with it. After a short introductory summary of functioning principles and history of the Schengen Area from 1985 to 2011 there is a chapter dedicated to the process of the enlargement by nine new countries. Nevertheless the main attention is paid to Poland and the Czech Republic, two Eastern neighbours of Germany. The third chapter analyzes in detail the consequences of the enlargement, especially its influence on the development of criminality and illegal immigration in Germany or the police co-operation among the countries concerned. Apart from the all- German dimension the thesis focuses on the specific situation in individual federal states on the eastern border - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Brandenburg, Saxony and Bavaria. European Union 2004 Eastern enlargement: introduction of new procedures?

The Bachelor's thesis "Eastern Enlargement of the European Union: Implementation of New Procedures?" examines the changes to criteria for new member accession, particularly members from Central and Eastern Europe. Enlargement to the East was the fifth sequential enlargement of the EU although due to the large number of applicants from post-communist states it was necessary to implement further procedures, to change pre-accession strategy and to state further conditions for candidates in order to become full-value members of the European Union. The thesis first addresses the history of EU enlargement in the 1970s and in the early 1990s. The second part, the largest part of the thesis, examines the process of Eastern enlargement of the European Union and describes the first interaction between Central and Eastern Europe and the European Community through signing association agreements, implementation of the Copenhagen criteria, opening of accession discussions up to the accession of ten new EU members in 2004 and a further two in 2007. The final part of the thesis is the analysis of the question of why these changes have to take place and the identification of fundamental differences.

Free movement of services - focus on eastern enlargement of the European Union

Diploma thesis "Free Movement of Services - The focus on Eastern Enlargement of the European Union" describes the development of the internal market of services of the European Union in view of the recent developments to complete liberalization of this market through the adoption of Directive 2006/123/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of the 12th December 2006 on Services in the Internal Market. The Eastern Enlargement of ten new countries partly affected the whole development, because it caused the reestablishment of some protectionist measures in the form of the transitional periods. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the situation on the market of services in the European Union after the admission of at least eight countries from Central and Eastern Europe, and to understand each of these steps, which have lead some states to these protectionist measures. The EU´s competitiveness and eastern enlargement

The primary goal of my thesis is to analyse the implementation of the EU's competitiveness. First chapter is devoted to the characterization of competitiveness and its measurement. The content of the second chapter is the implementation of Lisbon Strategy, its evaluation, a description of the new Europe 2020 Strategy, evaluate its two years effectiveness, and the end of the chapter summarizes the contribution of the eastern enlargement of the EU's competitiveness and its future potential. This work describes political and economical effects of The Eastern enlargement of European Union. It evaluates influence of enlargement on old and new member countries and also contextual changes in policies of EU. In the first chapter it describes historical development and cooperation collocated to enlargement. Second chapter evaluates positions and expectations of EU collocated to enlargement. Third chapter presents economic and political effects of enlargement hanging together with economic progress and policies of EU.

The regional policy in eastern enlargement context

The bachelor thesis "The regional policy in eastern enlargement context" is primarily dealing with development of regional policy from enlargement point of view. The main focus is on the greatest enlargement of EU history -- the eastern enlargement. The aim of the thesis is to examine the changes which were implemented in regional policy due to the eastern enlargement. The first part refers to the development of the policy EU from early years. Afterwards, the thesis is focused on aspects of eastern enlargement, in other words examines changes of aims of regional policy, change of redistribution of financial resources, new challenges after enlargement, and the main developing trends in summary. The last part is focused on Poland as one of the eastern enlargement state. It examines the attitude to the regional policy and its implementation from the state point of view.
